Limp Bizkit Splits With Producer Rick Rubin

Limp Bizkit has parted ways with producer Rick Rubin less than a week after heading into a Los Angeles studio to start work on the band's follow-up to "Significant Other."


The group tapped Rubin, the co-founder of Def Jam Records, to produce the new LP after working with Terry Date on "Significant Other" in 1999 and self-producing its 1997 debut, "Three Dollar Bill, Y'all." Limp Bizkit says it now plans to produce the new album on its own.Rubin is a legend in the rap-rock world, having produced and/or engineered recordings for Run-DMC, Beastie Boys, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Slayer, The Cult, L.L. Cool J, Danzig, Johnny Cash, Tom Petty, System Of A Down, and Melanie C., to name a few.Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst broke the news about the split while chatting with MTV News' Chris Connelly at the Hollywood premiere of "The Beach" at Mann's Chinese Theater on Wednesday night.

 

"We're not recording with Rick Rubin anymore," Durst told Connelly. "It just didn't work out. We gave it about a five-day week or so. So we're going to do it ourselves." Despite the change, Durst said he and the band are still excited about cutting the new album, even hinting at its possible title and release date. "We've written about two songs, and they're phat," Durst said. "It's feelin' really good. Everything's really good right now, and I'm really happy."I want to drop it on July 4," Durst revealed. Representatives for both Rick Rubin and Limp Bizkit had no comment on the split.Limp Bizkit's "Significant Other" is currently number 25 on the "Billboard" pop albums chart and has sold more than 5.1 million copies to date.
