In
an unprecedented move, Fred Durst, outspoken lead vocalist for rock
- rap hybrid Limp Bizkit, will be named senior VP of Interscope Records
and given his own imprint through the label. Durst will be charged with
various promotional and A&E duties across his and the entire Interscope
label group. Limp Bizkit is signed to Flip / Interscope.
His
duties at Interscope, as outlined by the agreement, include producing,
remixing, shooting videos and signing new acts.
"Fred
is very ambitious and extremely talented. The deal will enable him to
maximize his potential as an artist, producer and music executive. When
he puts his mind to it, he can accomplish anything," said Jeff
Kwatinetz, founder of management company the Firm, who brokered the
deal with attorney David Mantell.
 Durst
has already worked outside the confines of fronting his group. He directed
Limp Bizkit's "Nookie" and "Faith" videos. He also
shot the video for "Just Go" by Stained, which he discovered
and is signed to Elektra.Island
/ Def Jam, part of the Universal Music Group as is Interscope - Geffen
- A&M, and other labels have approached Durst with similar label
executive deals, sources said.
Industry
insiders predict Limp Bizkit's sophomore effort, "Significant Other,"
will open with 650,000 - 700,000 units sold when SoundScan releases
its figures Wednesday. The label initially shipped only about 900,000
units. The band's first album, "3 Dollar Bill, Y'all$," has
sold more than 1.6 million units.
